04 July 2024, Johannesburg
In partnership with YES, Sanlam officially launched the highly anticipated Youth4Tourism (Y4T) Art Exhibition at the Sanlam Art Lounge in Alice Lane, Johannesburg. This impactful partnership aims to encourage entrepreneurship and empower young artists to contribute to the economy and society.
The official launch of the Youth4Tourism Art Exhibition was held at Alice Lane, Johannesburg on 4 July 2024. The Art Exhibition is a testament to the commitment to tackling the unemployment crisis in South Africa and helping the local communities. It showcases young South Africans’ exceptional talent and creativity while serving as a catalyst for job creation and entrepreneurship. The event featured speeches from Sanlam Market Development Group Executive, Karl Socikwa and YES CEO, Ravi Naidoo.
By providing a platform for emerging young artists to showcase their work, the exhibition drives potential employment opportunities, commissions, and collaborations. In April this year, Youth4Tourism invited young artists to submit their artworks, photographs, and videos centred around the theme "Roots Unveiled: Exploring Home and Identity.” The concept encouraged these young creatives to delve into the idea of ‘home’ being a physical space and a cultural anchor, expressing the diverse facets of their identities shaped by their roots. The initiative recognised the top three entries during the exhibition's opening ceremony, awarding each creative a share of photography and videography equipment vouchers valued at R37 000. The winners were:
The Y4T Art Exhibition features a captivating collection of artworks meticulously selected by a distinguished panel of judges. The panel adjudicated the submissions based on creativity, relevance to the theme, and overall impact. It allows young artists to build professional portfolios and establish themselves in the art world by exhibiting their work. Furthermore, the equipment voucher prizes equip the winners with valuable resources to invest in their craft and kickstart their careers.
Ravi Naidoo emphasised the exhibition’s significance, "YES seeks to empower youth through employment and skills development, driving inclusive economic growth in South Africa. The Youth4Tourism Art Exhibition is a shining example of how these efforts have allowed us to harness the power of creativity to drive positive change. By investing in our youth and providing them with the tools and platforms to succeed, we are addressing unemployment and cultivating a generation of innovative thinkers and entrepreneurs who will shape the future of our nation."
Karl Socikwa spoke about the impactful partnership between Sanlam and YES in the Y4T Art Exhibition, saying “this exhibition is a testament to the immense potential of our youth. This exhibition is evidence of our youth’s immense potential. We need to continue creating opportunities for them to shine and unlock their abilities. Initiatives like these demonstrate the tangible impact we can have when we work together.”
The Youth4Tourism Art Exhibition will run from 5 July -16 August 2024 at the Sanlam Art Lounge in 11 Alice Lane, Johannesburg. Visitors are encouraged to explore captivating artworks, engage with young artists, and support their creative endeavours.
