Internal placement:
Youth
- Allow your company time to recruit the right youth for the roles you’ll be filling.
- Once you’ve found your youth, contract them.
Supervisors
- Ensure you have allocated enough supervisors for the youth, so that you can get accurate reporting, and the youths’ experiences, CVs and reference letters are robust.
- YES recommends that one supervisor oversees no more than ten youth in order to ensure best mentoring practices.
- Make sure your allocated supervisors understand what is expected of them in terms of training, and what the YES programme and its goals are.
- External placement:
- If you are placing youth externally through our sponsored host placement model (the turnkey solution), think of the kinds of jobs that would benefit your company’s overall social/environmental strategy, and place youth in a fitting YES-vetted IP.
Contract with your YES-vetted IP(s).
Your YES Youth begin working.
-
- A Supervisor induction will be scheduled with the supervisors to explain the role, access to the supervisor app, and the importance of completing the supervisor surveys.
- Your supervisors should have also completed the first supervisor survey.
You should expect quite a lot to happen in Month 2 of your YES programme.
Youth induction
- Once phones have been delivered and RICAed, a digital or face-to-face youth induction will be scheduled with the YES team.
- The YES induction session takes place with your YES Youth to ensure that youth make the most of their one-year YES work experience! This session aims to get your youth to engage with their work-readiness modules on the YES4Youth app, and with the monitoring and evaluation app (YESLife).
In order to receive a robust first company report from YES in your second month, ensure the following:
App engagement – youth
- Baseline survey to be completed by youth.
- App engagement will aid in the achievement of a CV and reference letter for the youth, as well as the ability for your business to claim up to 50% of its skills development spend back (Category F and G).
- Baseline survey to be completed by youth.
- By the end of month 2, youth should be 20% of the way through their modules.
- Ensure youth are submitting data through both the YES4Youth and YESLife mobile applications for the optimisation of your programme.

Keep up-to-date with how your programme is performing
- Keep checking your youth data on the Company Portal to keep abreast of your youth, their progress, and any drop-offs (drop-offs need to be replaced within a month).
Drop-offs
-
- It is a possibility that during the course of your programme, some youth may drop out. This can happen for various reasons. If more than 5% of your registered YES Youth drop out, the difference will need to be replaced. For example, if your commitment number is 50 youth, and four drop off, you will need to replace one (50 x 5% = 2.5=3).
- If any of your youth drop off after month 8, there is no need to find replacements.
The offboarding process begins in Month 8.
App engagement – youth
